Stealing Fire from the Gods
From DailyCandy's post:
Radio Silence
Turn on your radio and it goes like this: "SexyBack," "Irreplaceable," "Mr. Brightside." Repeat. Now, it’s a bookend.
Help create an alternative by volunteering at Prometheus Radio Project, the nonprofit that builds and advocates community radio.
You'll help set up low-power FM stations in rural areas by following up with contacts they’ve made in their nationwide outreach campaign. More than just envelope stuffing, it’ll put your writing, editing, and research skills to good use. Prefer to talk the talk? Sign up for a four-week program that’ll have you speaking at area high schools about media literacy.
Think of it as a chance to meet like-minded people, a way to make a small dent in the media conglomerate, and an escape from your daily routine.
You know, the one that takes place against an endlessly looping soundtrack of "Fergalicious."
Man, snide comments and everything! I definitely have new respect for this trendy trendspotter list.
In Greek mythology, Prometheus was the Titan that stole fire from the Gods and gave it to humans. His is certainly an apt name for a project whose goal is to put the power of broadcast radio into the hands of 'mere mortals.'
